Web Chat Widgets
Create chat widgets, embed them on your website, and manage handoff settings
What Web Chat Is
Web chat puts your AI receptionist on your website as an embeddable chat widget. Visitors chat with the AI, get answers from your knowledge pack, and become leads in your pipeline — and can be handed to a human live when needed. The page has two views: Widgets and Live Chat.
Create and Embed a Widget
Create the widget
On Web chat, click Create Widget, name it, and add the domain(s) where it will be installed - the widget will not load on any domain that is not listed.
Enable handoff if you want live takeover
Widgets with handoff enabled let visitors request a human; those requests appear in Live Chat with a pending badge.
Copy the embed code
Use the widget’s Embed Code action and paste the snippet into your website’s HTML. The widget renders in an isolated container, so your site’s styles do not break it.
Test on your live site
Start a chat as a visitor and verify the conversation appears in Inbox and creates a lead.
Managing Widgets
- The widget table shows name, position, handoff setting, and an active toggle per widget
- Deactivate a widget to take it offline everywhere it is embedded — no website change needed
- You can run multiple widgets (for example, different sites or landing pages) with separate settings
Troubleshooting
| Issue | Likely Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Widget not appearing on the site | The install domain is not in the widget's Allowed Domains (exact match - acme.com does not cover www.acme.com) | Open the widget's Allowed Domains card and add the exact host shown in your browser's address bar; re-check the console for [IntakeWidget]. |
| Widget appears but AI gives generic answers | Knowledge pack gaps | Improve AI Receptionist › Knowledge and retest in the Test page’s web-chat mode |
| Visitors ask for a human but nobody is notified | Handoff disabled on the widget | Enable handoff in the widget configuration and watch Live Chat |
