Connect Facebook Messenger and Instagram Direct Messages

Prerequisites
- A Facebook Business Page
- An Instagram Business or Creator account linked to that page
- A Meta access token with permission to manage the page’s messages
Connect the Channel

Open channel settings
Go to Settings › Channels and find the Facebook Messenger & Instagram card.

Enter your Meta Page ID and access token
Both come from your Meta Business tools for the page that should route messages into IntakeNexus. Save the card.

Confirm Instagram account linking
Instagram DMs flow through the same connection — verify your Instagram account is linked to that Facebook page in Meta’s settings.

Test both directions
Send a Messenger message and an Instagram DM to your page and verify each lands in Inbox with the correct channel badge.
Troubleshooting Meta Channel State
| Symptom | Check | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Connection stopped working | Token expiration or permission revocation | Generate a fresh access token in Meta tools and update Settings › Channels |
| Messenger works but Instagram does not | Instagram not linked to the connected page | Relink the Instagram account to the page in Meta settings, then retest |
| Messages delayed or missing | Meta app review limitations or permission scope | Verify the token has message permissions for the page |
Meta permission changes can silently stop message delivery. After any change on the Meta side, always run a fresh DM test.
